I live in Austin, Texas and our 3 Mexican palm trees were damaged by the freezing weather we had over the winter. At the end of March we pruned back the dead fronds, but, having read your advice on how to prune, I think we pruned one too much. The other 2 are recovering. The one that's not has water inside the trunk and the dead frond stalks are wet and rotten when I pull them out. I do think I can see some green inside the tree, however, so is there any hope? Should I try to blot the water inside with a rag and use the Copper Fungicide that you suggest?

Hi Linda. Sorry to hear about your palms. If the bud got damaged there is really little hope. Definitely try to get rid of the water. Copper Fungicide only protects from fungal infections, it doesn't help your tree to recover but when the palm is so weak it is a great product. Spray the center of the palm with copper fungicide. You should know if a few months if your palm will recover. Hope this helps. ~Susan Brian

Thank you so much for replying. I will definitely try to do as you say. Should I cover the palm if it is going to rain, to prevent more water from getting inside?

Hi Linda. You palm definitely doesn't need more water. Covering would help if you can do it without putting weight of the cover on the leaves. ~Susan Brian

I think I just tried my last hope. I bought the copper fungicide. I'm in San Antonio, most mexican fan palms are coming back, my gets green buds, then they die off brown. It's trying, I sure hope the fungicide works.

I live in Fl. & believe I over pruned one of my 25-30yr old Queen palms. I have several large queens in this area, all treated the same. Approx. 2 mnths ago I did some trimming, this one imparticular had a small bull ants nest in the base of several of the frawns, including both ones I had planned on trimming & some that I had not planned on, anyway I wound up trimming some of these to get rid of the majority of the bull ant nest, thus perhaps trimming one or two to many????? Basically all the other trees are fine & this one has turned all the frawns brown in a matter of week or two, it has some of the roster effect, but not horrible??? What can I do to help/give my palm a chance @ recovering, anything???
