Hi there,
I just received my 5 ft Old Man Palm last night. I will plant it in a large border area today. How much space/diameter will the roots and fronds eventually need? I expect that this spot will be its forever home.
Thanks!

Hi Christeen. These palm trees will be very difficult to transplant. You will need to hire someone with special equipment that will cost you few hundred dollars. It is best to do it during warm months. If you still want to go forward and get them moved, get the roots around the trees exposed at the top few weeks in advance to minimize the shock. Keep watering it. Do not fertilize it. ~Susan Brian

A good friend must sell their home and have 2 Old Man Palms about 8-10 feet high that they have offer to me. They are located in their ppol cage area . Do you have any tips on moving them? Do they transplant well? What about transplanting them in this cold snap. My friend is sentimentally attached to these trees and does not want to sell them with the house. Also, they are getting to tall for the cage. Can you advise us?

Any help is appreciated.
