Warning:
Fishtail palm fruit and the cluster material from which they grow contain microscopic toxic crystals that cause immediate and extremely uncomfortable irritation to skin. The berries ARE NOT to be eaten as they will cause severe mouth and throat irritation. Children and others with sensitive skin should beware.
I bought a house here in Hawaii that has several fishtail palms growing and the occupant of the house has had to take his children to the emergency room for treatment for fishtail palm irritation. Plant only far away from populated areas, never within reach of human contact!
