The scientific name for the Paurotis Palm is – Acoelorrhaphe wrightii. Paurotis Palm is native to southern Florida. Paurotis Palm is also known as Everglades Palm or Silver Saw Palmetto Palm.

Paurotis Palm Description

Paurotis Palm has light green leafs with silvery undersides. Along the edges you can see rows of sharp orange teeth, that is a reason for one of the plant’s common names, the Silver Saw Palm.

About 25 leaves are arranged into crowns that sit above thin stems that are only 3-4 in (7.6-10.2 cm) in diameter and are covered with loose brown fiber. Paurotis palm blooms in late spring with white flowers arranged on 4 ft (1.2 m) inflorescences that extend past the leaves. The small fruits are 1/2 in (1.3 cm) in diameter.

Majesty Palm Tree Description

The Majesty Palm is a very large palm with a large, untidy crown. This feather palm which grows up to 12m high has symmetrical leaves and develops an attractive swollen base at the trunk.

The Majesty Palm prefer full sun and plenty of water to ensure rapid growth. The plant must have proper drainage set up. Do not allow the roots to sit in water. On the other end, do not allow the plant to dry out completely in between watering either. This palm also prefers a slightly higher humidity level, so a daily misting will add plenty of beauty to your plant.

During summer, I recommend watering it every day and once a week during winter. And one more thing about watering. If you have this plant outside, make sure not to overwater its crown with a sprinklers. Majesty palm crown is very sensitive to too much moist.

It is tolerant of different soil types. This is very easy to grow plant if you growing it outside. If you live in Florida you can plant it and forget about it. No maintenance. If you live in California it’s a little harder because of the cold winter. This is not very hardy palm. You will probably need to wrap it in the winter.

The propagation is through seeds. Wait till the fruit is fully ripen before taking seeds out. Seeds need to be cleaned and dried. The Majesty Palm seeds don’t store well, so try to sow as soon as possible.

Plant in well draining soil mix at 1″ depth. Keep warm, lightly moist and in filtered sunlight. This palm needs sufficient fertilizer, and must be fertilized every 3 months or whenever its deep green color begins to fade. This inexpensive and commonly available palms are easy to grow.

Propagated by seeds. Keep in mind that seed should be sown as soon as possible, as dried seed is much more difficult to propagate.

Seedlings should be grown out in a pot for about a year or two as young plants have not developed their legendary coldhardiness.

Siting can be problematic, as it likes it’s head in the sun and it’s feet near the water, or at least a wet site. It can be grown as an impenetrable border, or as a tall ground cover under oaks. It is not known to be invasive and has no known serious pests.
